Introduction

Voltage controlled oscillators refer to the output frequency and the input control voltage has a corresponding relationship with the oscillator circuit (VCO), frequency is a function of the input signal voltage of the oscillator VCO, the working state of the oscillator or the component parameters of the oscillation loop are controlled by the input control voltage, which can constitute an oscillator.

It is an electronic oscillation circuit design that uses a voltage input to control the oscillation frequency. The frequency or repetition ratio of its oscillation will change with different DC voltages, and this feature can be used to use the modulation signal as the input of the VCO to generate different modulation signals, such as FM modulation, PM modulation, and PWM modulation.

Principle

The voltage control frequency part of the high-frequency voltage controlled oscillators are usually an LC resonant circuit connected by a varactor diode C and an inductor L. By increasing the reverse bias voltage of the varactor diode, the empty area in the diode will increase, and the capacitance will decrease as soon as the distance between the two conductors becomes longer, and the resonant frequency of the LC circuit will be increased. Conversely, when the reverse bias voltage is reduced, the capacitance in the diode becomes larger and the frequency decreases. Low-frequency voltage-controlled oscillators, on the other hand, choose different methods depending on the frequency, such as changing the charging rate of the capacitor to obtain a voltage-controlled current source
